Children’s Birthday Parties seem to have become a competitive field for parents. We are here to help you organise the right birthday party for you and your child, not for keeping up with the Jones’! There is no rule of thumb to follow, as different age groups suit differing activities or different time durations. We have tried to help you decide the basics by setting out some age-defined guidelines below:
Your child is aged 4 – 6 years old……
This is the ultimate birthday party age. This is the age where little girls get dressed in their best party dresses and little boys wear smart little shirts and trousers. Party games and birthday balloons are essentials for this age and a massive variety of party entertainments are available.
Birthday parties for this age are easily based around a theme, and with such an assortment of character based or themed partyware available, it is very easy to do. Little girls, understandably, often chose the ‘Barbie Birthday’ route but do remember the boys that you are inviting too! Similarly, boys may choose a ‘Spiderman’ party theme, which may not bode too well for little girls. If your child is certain on a theme such as this, offer an alternative; i.e Princesses and Action Men. Many favoured cartoons can kick start a birthday party theme, such as SpongeBob SquarePants can create an “Under the Sea” Party; with decorations and partyware to suit.
Attention spans for this age group are quite limited, but a good puppeteer, magician or clown will be able to keep your party guests amused for a while! Classic birthday party games are also good entertainment for this age range, although do watch for boys becoming too boisterous and the girls becoming a touch too competitive! A small birthday tea followed by some sedate entertainment would finish this party perfectly. Enlist as many adult helpers as possible and aim to keep the party under three hours long.
